Singleton Birch NHL 5 is a dry powdered lime made by slaking Lincolnshire quicklime from silaceous chalks. It is the only British hydraulic lime available.

This material is stronger and more durable with a faster setting speed. Suitable for use with dense materials, exposed masonry and marine construction.

"What can I use NHL 5 lime for?"

NHL 5 is suitable for dense masonry with a high degree of exposure to moisture, rain or water. Engineering bricks, granite, basalt and flint. Retaining walls, paving, roofing, coping stones, cornice, plinths, balustrades. Especially suited to marine building and construction; bridges, canals, dams, harbours, marinas, sea fronts.

"What is hydraulic lime?"

Hydraulic limes set by hydrolysis, they rely on moisture to cause a set. This gives them the ability to set underwater.

"Do I need to add cement to make it set?"

Absolutely not, hydraulic lime sets just fine. It is often confused with hydrated lime which can be added to cement mortar to increase workability. Genuine traditional lime mortars, renders and plasters don't ever contain any cement.
